Sidney D Spencer

My name is Sidney Spencer. I fell in love with the San Rafael Valley when I was a toddler and my grandmother, Dorothea Meigs would take me up to the top of the Canello Pass and we would sit there in that old green pickup truck, looking down at this magnificent valley where she had ranched from the 1930s and all during WW2.

It broke her heart to leave the valley and move over to a smaller place along the Babacomari River. The Lazy J2 had been sold and that was that but somehow I got it into my head I would buy it back.

I am very blessed to have worked hard and actualized my dream, second only to getting the best education I could for my daughter. When I moved back to the San Rafael Valley I had earned the money and could look you in the eye and say that “I didn’t inherit it, I didn’t marry it and I didn’t divorce it”….I earned every penny and had to reassemble it because the original J2 had been subdivided and half of it sold to a neighboring ranch.

In 1995 GrassFed Beef was not a thing and I had decided I’d raise beef for a nation distributor until I received the 8.5×11 paper full of shots, vaccines and medicines I could give the cattle and still call it “Natural”

That’s when I knew I was going to do it my way and make it 100% GrassFed with no shots and no grains and let them live so that they could marble naturally on grass for that healthy golden grass-fed tallow. Cattle don’t marble until they are more than 4 so everything I was doing was going to be different than the norm.

I love my land, I love my cattle and although my customers are third in line I love them too and want them to have the very best that my stewardship can supply.
